3 THINGS I LEARNED DRIVING A PORSCHE 911

One cool experience I had one summer was going for a cruise in a Porsche 911 belonging to a good friend. Since this is not an auto magazine, I will refrain from a lot of car talk that will bore most of my readers. Here’s three things I learned …

1. If you’re going to do well in life, be ready to make adjustments.
I don’t need to tell you that a Porsche is a sweet ride… but when I got in I could barely reach the pedals. I’m 5′ 10″ and my friend is over 6′. I could’ve just pretended like if it was good enough for him, I would be cool too … but that would’ve just been bad. I pulled the seat up like a little kid and was ready to roll. If you need to pull the seat up in some area of your life, don’t pretend like you don’t need to … you won’t fool anyone.

2. Checkup on yourself, it’s your responsibility, not anyone elses.
I took off on a country road and the 911 screamed. I glanced down and realized it was in MPH… Needless to say the brakes came on pretty fast. If I got pulled over, it wouldn’t do any good to blame my friend (or the Porsche). I am responsible for my actions – period… and so are you.

3. Be teachable.
I have a novice racing license so I am a decent driver. On occasion Susan might say something while I’m driving like, “Paul! Do you see that car? Move over!” I like to say, “Hey, I have a piece of paper in my garage that says I’m pretty good at this.” She hates it when I say that. I am also committing myself to an accident free life, or I might not live it down being that arrogant with her.  My friend who owns the Porsche however is a driver on a Whole Nutha Level. I pulled the car over and asked him to show me how to take turns. He was responsible as far as speed was concerned and let me tell you, I’ve never cornered like that in my life. Always, always, always be willing to learn. There’s an old saying … “you’re an old dog when you stop learning new tricks.” Proverbs 4
