Creating Something New

2011 is here and I look forward with great anticipation of new things to come this year. New is not the same as better. It’s new. To create something new in 2011 whether it be in relationships, in business or otherwise means being willing to leave “the way I have always done it” or “the way I have always seen it” and be willing to venture out into something completely different.

Having a “better year than last year” usually translates into approaching everything and everyone the exact same way – but with a new set of intentions. This almost certainly results in incremental change – if any. But to create something new … that requires courage. Courage to approach a conversation from a position of discovery – not familiarity, or to try something completely new.

If you’re like me, you’d prefer to venture out into the unknown with a fantastic safety net below you. That safety net is usually composed of all the things that are familiar to you, so that at the first sign of danger, you can fall back into the comfortable place of what you know. The downside of course, is nothing new is ever created … just moments of “it seems to be getting better.”

2011 has the potential to be an amazing life changing year. What takes potential and turns it into reality? Taking personal responsibility for our approach to each and every opportunity. Let’s look to this upcoming year with expectancy and determination to create something new.

Ephesians 3:20 “Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.”
